Brief Bio on Green School’s Principal
Andrew Dalton - Principal
Andrew joined Green School in August 2009, bringing with him a wealth of international school experience. His previous position was Headmaster of Bromsgrove International School in Thailand - a day and boarding school. After starting his teaching career in the UK, he gained international experience at St.Christopher’s International School (Bahrain) and Tanglin Trust School (Singapore). Andrew started his career in Engineering before deciding to change profession into teaching. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (Hons), a Postgraduate Qualification in Education (PGCE) in Mathematics, and the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). He is a Master's student in Educational Management.

Brief Bio on Green School’s Teaching Staff for 2010-2011
Susan Allen - Creative Arts
Susan is an artist and educator trained in shadow play, creative movement,
yoga and expressive arts. She has a Masters in Environmental Studies and
has completed two years of a doctorate in Holistic Education. Through her
small theatre company, Me and My Shadows, she has brought storytelling,
dance and shadow play to children of all ages in schools and at cultural
and environmental events in Canada, Japan and Indonesia.
Glenn Chickering – Sports and Activities
Glenn holds a Bachelor’s degree in Interpersonal and Public Communications, and a TEFL qualification. He is American, and has held a number of short term positions as a camp counselor and a teacher. Glenn is a keen sportsman and also has a keen interest in global issues. He is married to Melinda.
Desak Putu Ratmini– Indonesian Class Teacher
Desak holds a teaching qualification from STKIPN in English from Singaraja, North Bali. She is Indonesian and has been teaching in private and public schools to a range of ages for nearly ten years.
Katharine Lane – International Primary Class Teacher – new to Green School
Katharine holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and Politics, and a Postgraduate Qualification in Education (English – Primary). She hails from Britain where she began her teaching career. For nine years she was with Tanglin Trust School, Singapore where she taught all ages in the Junior School and was Head of Humanities. Kath joined Green School in August 2009.
Jerry Lloyd – International Primary Class Teacher
Jerry holds a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts (with a concentration on Psychology), and a Teaching Credential from California State University. Jerry joined Green School in August 2009 and prior to that had been teaching Grades 1 and 2 for fourteen years in three different schools, most recently in Anaheim, California.
Jan Maraire – Creative Arts
Graphic artist, teacher and performer, Jan moved to Bali from Maui, Hawaii in 2008. She has dedicated over 20 years to the study of traditional Shona music from Zimbabwe, and she helped to popularize marimba music in the US. Jan brings a set of specially designed marimba instruments to Green School, and her sons Eddy and Isami are also students at the school.
Joel Mowdy – English Specialist
Joel holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing which is his passion. He is American, yet in the three years prior to joining Green School he worked in international education in Lithuania, following an early career in tertiary education. He is a published writer. Joel joined Green School in August 2009, and is a Green School parent of a four-year old son.
Luh Peni Betasari – Indonesian Class Teacher
Peni was born and raised in Singaraja, Bali. After graduating with a degree in teaching in 2005, she has primarily worked at Sekolah High/Scope as a Kindergarten and First Grade teacher. Peni joined Green School in August 2009 and is keen to continually learn more about sustainability in education.
Andrew Slavin – Student Support Specialist
Andrew holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, a California Certification in Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development, and a Teacher’s Licence from Oregon. He has more than fifteen years’ experience in management and teaching across all ages in Elementary and Middle. Prior to joining Green School in August 2009, he was Intervention Specialist and Counselor in Oregon. He is a Green School parent of a Grade 1 child.
Susiawan – Creative Arts
Susiawan is a graduate of ITB, Bandung in Fine Arts and Design. His career spans teaching, facilitating, writing, illustrating, editing and as an artist, exhibiting in painting, photography, and puppetry in Indonesia and in Canada. He is Indonesian, with Permanent Resident status in Canada.
Dawn Teddi Wiedemann – Green Studies Teacher
Dawn holds a Master of Fine Arts in Film and Fine Arts Photography. Born and brought up in America, she now has Indonesian citizenship. She has a wealth of professional experience in education – teaching all ages from Pre-School to College – and has been trained in Steiner methodology. She is also a Green School parent.
Veronika Nariswari – Indonesian Class Teacher
Vero holds a teaching qualification from STBA Pertiwi, and is certified in High Scope Development in Early Childhood Education. She comes from Java and was formerly teaching in Jakarta.
Eva Green - Kindergarten
Eva holds a Diploma of Visual Arts and a Bachelor’s degree in Learning Management. She was born in Alice Springs and raised in Queensland, Australia. For the past three years she has been teaching children in the age range from Early Years to Grade 5 in Melbourne. She was the Sports and Sustainability Coordinator at her most recent teaching position. Eva has previously lived in the UK and travelled South America. Having worked for Greenpeace Australia, she is passionate about environmental and sustainability issues. She is currently studying Indonesian language. Eva is an artist and has exhibited her paintings in various places around Australia. Her interests include yoga and green living. As a new teacher to the Green School, she is very excited to be joining the team and is looking forward to meeting staff, parents and children.
Martin Foakes - Science
Martin has been teaching Science and Outdoors Education in leading International Schools in South East Asia for the past 17 years. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Crop Science from Leeds University and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from York University, UK. Martin is an avid climber, but recently he has devoted his spare time to exploring and mapping uncharted cave systems in Thailand. Martin will be joined by his wife and his two daughters, who will be attending Greenschool in August.
Julie Dale - Mathematics
Julie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a PGCE specialising in secondary Mathematics teaching. She has a love of travel and has taught in diverse schools in the UK, Botswana, Zambia and most recently Thailand. Her mission is to make mathematics enjoyable and accessible to all, whilst sharing her passion and enthusiasm about the beauty and wonder of mathematics. Julie is married to Chris, also a new Green school teacher, and they have 3 young children.
Colin Kuit - PE
Colin is from South Africa, holds a Sports Science degree and teaching degree in Physical Education. He was PE teacher/Aquatics director for 5 years at an international School in Manila, Philippines prior to moving to Bali. He has been involved in coaching Green School swimmers and has run a surfari for Green School surfers. Colin is also director of ISSC(International Schools Surf Camp) where he also works closely with Green Camp. He is married to Joanne who teaches Art at Bali International School.
Chris Sparks - Environmental Management/Green Studies
Chris has a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics, a post-graduate teaching qualification and 10 years of teaching experience in Botswana, England, Zambia and Thailand, teaching Grades 5 to 12. Chris is married to Julie, who is also a teacher, they have 3 children. Chris believes that a teacher needs to get to know their students and help them to learn about themselves and discover what they really love to do. He likes to be part of all aspects of school life from productions and sports to environmental activities and community service; for Chris school is part of his family and he commits totally to the school community. Chris sees Green School as an opportunity to revolutionize how we educate our children.
Yara Torres - Spanish
Yara will be joining Green School on a part-time basis to teach Spanish. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Hispanic Language and Literature after studying at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma of Mexico. She has extensive experience of teaching Spanish and believes that the most important aspect is that the students enjoy the learning experience and that they develop their linguistics skills at their own pace.
Andrea Borghero - Grade 3
Andrea brings with her a wealth of experience of teaching various grades. Andrea graduated with distinction from her teaching degree at Central Queensland University, and has experience, enthusiasm, drive and energy to effectively lead the Grade 3 class. Andrea has an holistic outlook on education and combines creativity with sound commonsense and a critical awareness of contemporary approaches to education. Andrea has lived most of her life in Queensland, Australia and as a young adult she lived in Paraguay, South America and later invested two years of traveling and experiencing different cultures of world. She enjoys cooking, arts and crafts and has recently started to learn the djambe and guitar. Andrea will be joined by her daughter who is excited to attend Green School in August. We look forward to her joining the faculty.
Amanda Gazidis - Pre-K
Amanda holds a BA (Hons) in Photography and PGCE in Art and Design and a Steiner Class Teacher Qualification. She was born in South Africa and raised in the UK and has taught Art and Design in Botswana and various Early Childhood Primary age groups in the UK, both in mainstream and Steiner Schools. She holds a Forest School leaders qualification and is an advocate of outdoor hands-on education. She has worked as a freelance environmental photographer and has run her own children's entertainment business for many years. Amanda has lived and worked in eco-villages in the UK and is committed to conservation and sustainability and attended a permaculture design course. Her interests include photography, visual and performing arts, spirituality, holistic lifestyle, scuba-diving and green issues. She is enthusiastic to work at Green School to lead the next generation, so they may learn through play and doing, thriving and growing in a holistic and nurturing environment. Amanda enjoys community living and is looking forward to living and working in Bali and learning about the culture and its traditions.
Mona Dalmia
Mona graduated with a Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College, Boston, MA, USA, with areas of focus being creative problem solving, literacy, language development, science and mathematics. She has gained valuable international teaching experience in Singapore and the USA prior to joining Green School. Mona is actively involved in charity work and the community, as well as having many other personal interests, including oil painting, reading, performing arts, aerobics, yoga, dancing and Writing. Mona is married to Ajay, who are Green School parents of two daughters.
Brief Bio on Green School’s Resident Doctor
Dr. Ating Solihin
On graduating from the Medical School of University of Gajah Mada in Yogyakarta, driven by his interest in rainforest conservation, Dr. Ating went into the jungles of Papua and Borneo Islands to provide health services to the tribal people for around 12 years. He expanded his knowledge by taking a Master's program in the School of Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill majoring in Environmental Health. He now provides a comprehensive health service to the Green School community.
